Convert TXT to DOCX (Word)

Text from a TXT file opens in Word with each line as a paragraph, ready to edit, style and print.

Convert TXT to DOCX when plain text has to become a document: headings, margins and page numbers, comments from a reviewer, or simply a file for a place that accepts Word only.

What happens when you convert TXT to DOCX

A text file holds nothing but characters: no fonts, no paragraph spacing, no pages. Word adds all of that, and notes from a plain editor turn into an ordinary document you can edit and style.

Each line of the source becomes its own paragraph. Formatting is not guessed along the way: a line that looked like a heading stays the same text as the lines around it.

  • The order of the text is kept in full, and no non-empty line is lost.
  • Blank lines between blocks disappear, so the spacing between sections has to be set again.
  • The whole document uses one font and size, which you then change in Word.
  • Lists, tables and headings do not appear: applying styles is your part of the job.

The way back, when a document has to give up plain text without any styling, is the DOCX to TXT converter.

How to convert

  1. Upload your TXT file to this page.
  2. Check that the target format is DOCX.
  3. Start the conversion and wait for the finished file.
  4. Download the document and open it in Word or another editor.

When text needs to become a document

  • Submit an essay or report where the requirements name .docx and nothing else.
  • Send a draft for review: Word shows edits as tracked changes, a text editor cannot.
  • Turn a meeting transcript into a document with headings and a date.
  • Prepare text for print, since margins, headers and page numbers live in the document.
  • Move notes out of an old text editor into a file colleagues will open.

Frequently asked questions

Will headings and lists appear in the document?

No. The source carried no markup, so the text arrives as identical paragraphs and you apply heading and list styles in the editor.

What happens to blank lines between paragraphs?

They do not carry over. If the text was split into parts by an empty line, set the spacing or page breaks in the document instead.

What about a table drawn with spaces?

It will not stay aligned, because characters in the document differ in width and the columns drift. Such data is better rebuilt as a real table.

What if the text is only meant to be read?

Then a Word document is more than you need. Take the TXT to PDF converter: the file opens everywhere and does not change on the way.
