Convert ODS to XLSX (Excel)
A LibreOffice Calc table opens as an Excel workbook: sheets, formulas and styling move into XLSX.
Convert ODS to XLSX when a LibreOffice Calc table is expected somewhere that runs on Excel: an accounting department, a client with a corporate office suite, a report template that already has macros on their side.
What happens when you convert ODS to XLSX
ODS and XLSX describe the same thing: a grid of cells, formulas and styling. They differ in the markup inside the file, which is why an older Excel stumbles on ODS and corporate systems often turn it away.
The XLSX workbook keeps the same content: sheets stay in their order and under their names, and formulas stay formulas for Excel to recalculate.
- Cell styling and column widths carry over.
- Functions with no counterpart in Excel may show an error in the cell, so give those places a look.
- Macros do not travel: they were written for Calc and Excel will not run them.
- Nothing is recalculated on the way, and the values stay the ones the source had.
When the table only needs to be shown or printed, the ODS to PDF converter is a shorter route. To send a finished Excel workbook onward, use the XLSX to PDF converter.
How to convert

Frequently asked questions
Are formulas and multiple sheets preserved?
Yes. Sheets come across with their names and order, and formulas remain formulas, so Excel recalculates them the first time you open the file.
What happens to Calc macros?
They do not carry over. Any automation has to be rebuilt in the Excel workbook with Excel's own tools.
