Convert ODS to CSV
The first sheet of a LibreOffice Calc table comes out as comma-separated values, ready for an import.
Convert ODS to CSV for other people's systems: an online store, a CRM or an accounting package takes an upload in CSV and does not understand a LibreOffice Calc table at all.
What happens when you convert ODS to CSV
What remains of the table are the cell values, laid out in rows and columns separated by commas. Styling, merged cells and charts have no expression in CSV and never reach the file.
The first sheet of the book is exported. If the data sits on the second one, move that sheet to the front and convert the file again.
- Text is written in UTF-8, but the file carries no encoding mark: opened with a double click, Excel sometimes garbles non-Latin letters, so an import with UTF-8 chosen explicitly is safer.
- The separator is a comma, which nearly every import accepts as it comes.
- Formulas do not live in CSV, and the file keeps values instead.
If the whole workbook is expected in Excel, with every sheet, take the ODS to XLSX converter. For printing and sending there is the ODS to PDF converter.
How to convert
- Upload your ODS file to this page.
- Check that the target format is CSV.
- Start the conversion and wait for the finished file.
- Download the CSV and hand it to the import.
Frequently asked questions
Why did only one sheet end up in the file?
A CSV holds one table and has no tabs. The first sheet is exported, and the rest are converted one at a time.
What if Excel shows garbled characters?
Open the file through an import with UTF-8 selected rather than by double click. Nothing is lost in the data, the question is only how it is read.
