Convert GIF to BMP
Convert GIF to BMP to get the first frame uncompressed for programs and machines that read BMP only.
Convert GIF to BMP when the picture is expected by a program that understands uncompressed raster alone: an old editor, a CNC machine, an in-house utility.
What happens when you convert GIF to BMP
An animation gives up its first frame: BMP holds one image, and motion does not fit into it. If you need a different moment, cut it out in an editor and upload it as a separate picture.
Colours from the GIF palette are written pixel by pixel, so the file usually gets heavier while the look stays as it was: banding already present on a gradient remains. Transparency is kept in the file, and a current viewer shows the background as transparent. Many older programs, the very ones BMP is needed for, cannot read it, though, and show a solid colour there instead, most often black.
- One frame reaches the BMP, the first in order.
- The file is usually heavier than the source GIF.
- Not every program sees the transparent background: older ones show a fill.
How to convert GIF to BMP
- Upload your file in GIF.
- Select BMP as the result format.
- Start the conversion.
- Open the result and check that it is the frame you wanted.
Who needs an uncompressed frame
- Pass a picture to a program whose only known format is BMP.
- Prepare an image for equipment with its own file reader.
- Load a frame into an editor where pixel work without compression artefacts matters.
- Pull the first frame out of an animation as a standalone illustration.
- Keep an image in a format that opens without extra libraries.
Other options for GIF files
- An animation for a website is kept by the GIF to WebP converter.
- Wording from the picture comes out with the GIF to TXT converter.
- The way back for legacy systems is the BMP to GIF converter.
FAQ
Is the animation preserved?
No. BMP holds one image, so only the first frame goes into the file.
Why does the BMP weigh more?
Every pixel in it is written in full, without compression. That is exactly why old programs still ask for the format.
What happens to a transparent background?
In the file it stays transparent, but a program that does not read transparency in BMP shows a solid colour in its place. If the picture is headed for old software, put it on the background you need beforehand.
