Convert DOCX (Word) to JSON

Convert DOCX to JSON with source metadata, text by page and separate table data.

Convert DOCX to JSON when a program needs to read a Word document: for search, import, or further processing. Text remains split by page, while tables are delivered as rows and cells rather than tab-separated text.

JSON structure

The result always has the same four top-level fields, regardless of the source format.

{
  "source": { "filename": "report.docx", "format": "docx", "pages": 2, "size_bytes": 18432 },
  "converted_at": "2026-09-17 10:30:00",
  "pages": [{ "number": 1, "text": "First page text", "lines": ["First page text"] }],
  "tables": [{ "page": 2, "header": ["No.", "Event"], "rows": [["1", "Registered"]] }]
}
  • source contains the file name, format, size, and number of pages with extracted text.
  • pages holds a page number, its full text, and individual lines.
  • tables holds a page number, header, and table rows. It is an empty array when there are no tables.

Styling, images, fonts, and headers or footers do not carry over: JSON is intended for document data.

How to convert

  1. Upload a DOCX file.
  2. Select JSON as the target format.
  3. Download the finished JSON and pass it to your code.

If plain text is enough, use the DOCX to TXT converter. For a file a person will read, use DOCX to PDF.
